GCR and LFTW Partner in the InPower Program to Empower Partners in Nhamatanda, Buzi, and Gorongosa
Girl Child Rights (GCR), in collaboration with the organization LFTW and with generous funding from the Austrian Cooperation, conducted a significant workshop as part of the InPower program. The event took place from October 17 to 19 in the Nhamatanda region of Mozambique, with the aim of promoting positive male engagement to reduce Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases among partners in the community.
This three-day workshop brought together a team of gender experts, psychologists, social workers, and community members, providing a platform for open discussion and the development of effective strategies to address the critical issue of GBV. Nhamatanda, Buzi, and Gorongosa, located in the central region of Mozambique, face significant challenges regarding gender-based violence, making these initiatives vital for the community.
The primary focus of the workshop was to empower men in the region with tools and knowledge to positively engage in GBV prevention. Participants discussed gender issues, harmful stereotypes, and learned how to promote healthy and equal relationships. They also addressed awareness of the importance of psychological support for GBV victims and how to respond effectively in such cases.
The InPower program is a joint effort between GCR, LFTW, and the Austrian Cooperation to empower communities and individuals to work towards eradicating GBV and promoting gender equality. Workshop participants expressed enthusiasm and commitment to applying what they have learned in their own lives and communities.
This event marked a significant step in the fight against GBV in Mozambique and underscores the importance of collaboration between international and local organizations, as well as the crucial role that positive male engagement plays in creating a safer and more equitable future.
